The work at The Meadows at Olde Carpenter has come to a complete stop for some time now. One block of slabs has been poured, but just sits there. Framing for another slab has also been in place for a couple of months, but no concrete has been poured. No one is working there anymore. Has Toll Brothers decided to bail out on the project?
Is this the townhome development? We actually looked at these a couple of months ago. The models were beautiful but what deterred us was that none of them were sold except one lot (which sat empty) and there was no evidence of further building - as well as the fact that they were directly across the street from the RR tracks.

We drive through this area to get to the new library. Toll Brothers has two sections at "Olde Carpenter"... single family homes in the "Estates" section, and townhomes in "The Meadows". The townhouse have sat silently for months it seems and unfortunately have a view of a very large dirt mound/hill across the street. As mentioned above, they are very close to the RR tracks. They are, on the plus side, within walking distance to the library, the elementary school across from the library and Green Hope HS.
In addition to being right across from the RR tracks, it sits directly across the street from a large blue water tower. Not exactly the view I'd want from my windows.
Those tracks are not heavily used. They mainly serve the businesses along 55 (brick place, mulch place, stone place, etc) that get stuff shipped in. I don't think there is any regular service like an Amtrak that comes through. It is very rare to see a train there.
If you don't own the RR tracks you never know what will happen along them in the future. A lot of folks up north in Hingham MA found that out in recent years. Also there is quite a bit of plane noise in that area...I could never figure out how that area of Carpenter Village was asking 1/2 million for homes packed together, under the flight path...
Carpenter Village is a 10 minute drive to RTP. The homes there go for far less than nearby neighborhoods like Highcroft, Preston, and Cary Park. Now the Toll Brothers neighborhood, I personally don't like. Those homes are on teeny lots, have no screen porches and just don't offer a good value. But my CV home was far less than 1/2 Million and is on a 1/4 acre lot (large by Cary standards). I trade plane noise that I hear outside (but almost never inside) for a location that can't be beat and will only get better as the Triangle grows.
You are right, there are no guarantees on the future with a rail. But right now that line is lightly used.
Anyway, I walked through Olde Carpenter just now for my evening stroll. The Meadows model has a sign/map on the door pointing visitors to the model home in the house side of the neighborhood. I'm guessing with the slowdown that these aren't moving quickly and TB has decided to just have one agent during the week. If I get a chance, I'll check this weekend.

I live in Carpenter Village across the street from the lake. I don’t think a plane has ever made enough noise to bother me in the house or outside. I like to watch them from my porch and would not avoid this area due to noise. The best parts of Carpenter Village are the people. Being new to the area, my wife and I were pleased to see how open and friendly the neighborhood was. I still find it that way after almost three years.
I think the last four or five homes built in the older section of Carpenter Village (all on the lake) have been sold for one to two million. One under construction now is sold and was priced at 2.6 million. I think a lot of other people don’t hear the air planes.

I agree that the Toll Brothers neighborhood at Carpenter Village seems a bit off. The other sections of Carpenter Village are very nice, but the new Toll Brothers section is crammed and all the homes back up to each other. I really can't see the draw in most of the setups there. The other sections of Carpenter Village have nice homes, great lots and nice walking areas, plus the lake. I do notice louder airplane noise there, but I would be willing to forgive that for everything else it has.
You must enjoy living there.
