I know I was told about a free preschool in Raleigh that has a waiting list but I totally forgot what the name of it is. Does anyone know the name?

Default Preschool

NC's More at Four (MAF) program provides free preschool for "at-risk" 4 year olds. It is based upon income limits. Private preschools and public preschools apply to be MAF programs and agree that they will accept the payment to provide care. In order to be a MAF program, a private or public preschool has to meet additional requirements based on star ratings, teacher ed, number of children, etc.

DSS also provides free childcare based on income limits. Less emphasis on quality...

State funded childcare programs have been authorized by the state to expand the pool of eligible families to help those families where the wage earner has lost employment, is going back to school for retraining, etc. A lot of counties have wait lists for both programs, but I'm not sure about Wake County right now.

I suggest calling the Wake County Partnership for Children for information. They should be able to connect you with both of the above programs and may also be able to tell you about other resources, including the childcare you are specifically thinking about...
