My mother is sick and we are moving there from manhattan for my father and for a better quality of life for our 2 very young kids.
My parents live in Durham, and we may be able to work from home, but most likely Raleigh most of the time.

We love the pedestrian lifestyle the city offers
need excellent public schools
diverse, pretty liberal community
don't want a super long commute.
income would be around 120k

Where should we live Raleigh (what areas), Chapel Hil, Durham?

thanks!

"Pedestrian lifestyle?"

I think Manhattan offers a "pedestrian lifestyle." Not anywhere in the Triangle.

The area ranks high nationwide in pedestrian deaths, though.

There are some older, established areas of Raleigh inside the beltline that are walkable communities, near the Raleigh Little Theater and NC State University area (between Hillsborough Street and Wade Avenue). Oakwood community, Glenwood, and Five Points are closer to in-town. I don't know of anything in downtown area that isn't a high-rise.
