You can also get rear ended from behind on the ramp if people don't anticipate a sudden stop or slow down if you can't get onto Capital Blvd......just saying
There used to be a yield sign coming from Wake Forest rd. onto n/b Capital but same issue of people blowing though it causing wrecks DOT ended up putting in a STOP sign.

Yep...they sure did. That was almost a sure stop at that yield sign anyway.

Yep, that'd be the correct safety measure to correct those accidents. I'm in complete agreement that there is no space to make any kind of safe merge if traffic is coming at the Wade & Capital ramp we're talking about.
That's the purpose of the yield sign!! There wouldn't be a harrowing experience if people would just yield. If cars are coming you are supposed to stop. Not merge in anyway. Stop. Period.
I DO yield and/or stop when I get to that sign, that's why I'm scared of getting rear ended. The people BEHIND me might not be slowing down enough or expecting me to have to come to a complete stop (which again, I do when necessary). Gees.

So, I guess this thread is a good thing. It has shed a lot of light to the many issues that can arise due to people thinking it's okay to blow yield signs.
The traffic is horrible in the morning and afternoon around the 440 & Wade Avenue interchange where the 6 lane section of 440 becomes 4 lanes. Coming westbound in the mornings, I see a lot of cars/trucks trying to cut in late to the line of cars trying to get onto Wade Avenue because and blocking the middle thru lane which in turn blocks or slows traffic upstream. I wonder sometimes if this could be helped by earlier signage that the lane is going to end so people have way advance notice that they need to get over in that lane. Though I'm sure the traffic coming onto 440 from Lake Boone Trail doesn't help things out as well and some people hate waiting.
Random thought of the morning. It'll get better down the road when they make all of 440 6 lanes
Someone local should point out that it hasn't always been this way.
Even 15 yrs ago it seemed that area drivers were so polite, allowing easy lane mergers, letting folks out of driveways, driving near the speed limits, etc. Now that we have become a magnet for people from more densely populated cities, they are bringing some of their pushiness with them. Not everyone, of course, but even 5% more aggressive drivers makes a big difference.
