It's summertime, so exactly how long ago did this happen?

The friend/mechanic thing would be a red flag for me unless it's a legitimate body shop repair business since most auto mechanics don't paint cars for a living.

The whole story just doesn't sound right. Poor judgement to try backing out of a drive thru (if I'm reading it correctly).
