Thats a great point and at least in the Cary threads someone really got shot not like the multiple page Durham ones where someone thinks they heard a gun shot but no one got shot. Oh well I think I heard knife in my neighborhood so I may start a thread on that one. Truth be told I hear gunshots a lot and my wife says is that a gun and I say I guess so. If the Panthers ever win a playoff game could get real loud around here. We really have gotten use to it. I think someone in the development over loves to shoot something loud.

Has any crime been reported?

I've heard gunshots in my neighborhood before in both Florida and Rhode Island. Only the one in Florida was reported. It was just a stupid college party where someone decided to be a big shot (no pun intended) and fire a gun in the air. The one in Rhode Island maybe wasn't even a gunshot. No reports were filed.

If no crime has been reported, it's not necessarily a sign of a bad neighborhood. Guns are legal. Just hope that your neighbors are responsible!

I don't know if someone has mentioned this, but I bet it was a TURKEY SHOOT. They're going on everywhere this time of year. You will hear lots of gun shots if you live near a turkey shoot area. This is especially popular Saturday nights for some reason. Basically alot of guys get together with their shot guns to see who is the best shot, and whomever wins gets a free Turkey.

I bet that's what it was.

They do turkey shoots late at night -- always after dark. This isn't considered hunting, our neighbors do it in the local ball field after dark. Really, I bet this is what it was, just target shooting for a free turkey.

Sorry, that was me. I was just celebrating.

I grew up in the North Hills area of Raleigh. I would hear gunshots just about every week coming from the apartments nearby my neighborhood. I never was all that concerned about it, though.
I've lived in Durham for about five years now and have only heard a gunshot once or twice (aside from the ones that are clearly hunters). I'm even less concerned about it now.

I guess never mind the fact Raleigh has more murders than Durham huh?

Oh and to the guy who said DT Raleigh is where all the crime is and NE Raleigh is some kind of safe haven. It's funny our police department reports much more crime in Northeast Raleigh than Downtown.

Hmm all of this because someone THOUGHT they heard a gun shot!

Seasons Greetings and may all have a joyous Thanksgiving. Be thankful for all the good that there is in your life and share the cheer with all.

I can understand the concern with gunshots.. but honestly, i'd say that if you are consistently hearing gunshots in your area, but never reading about crime that's occurring in your area related to the gunshots, then it's probably safe to say that the gunshots are not crime related.. If they are, then either the criminals aren't shooting to kill, or have bad aim.. either way, since you aren't hearing about crimes being committed on the nights that you hear these gunshots, then it's probably hunting related.. if you were to hear about murders/robberies the next day with no suspects apprehended, then there'd be a legitimate cause for concern...
