I'm shopping for a gift for my in-laws, who are in their early 60s and recently moved to the area. My father-in-law is retiring this month, so they will have more time on their hands.
For the last gift-giving occasion, we gave them tickets to a local show and a gift card for dinner before. I'm not opposed to doing that again, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a gift of something to do that is in this area?
The state farmer's market also has a lot of interesting stuff from NC. The nahunta pork outlet there has bbq that's good and convenient as well, I always buy a couple containers of it to take to friends that are out of state when I visit.
I am a fruit cake hater but someone made me taste theirs and i was sold. It is more like a heavy pecan nutty type cake. Very decadent and great with coffee. They have other stuff that is very good too on their site!

This is the ONLY fruitcake that I like and it is delicious!
The Museum of History (downtown Raleigh) has a ton of Raleigh/North Carolina type gifts. I purchased a beautiful throw that was all about Raleigh. Great Christmas ornaments that depict NC.

Vicki, thanks for this! I once rec'd a cake as a gift and I thought it would be just another fruitcake - was I wrong! These cakes are awesome, the best I've had here, or in England. It is so moist and to call it a fruitcake is almost a shame.
