Maybe you haven't heard it but I have seen it in writing.
I have a forum where one of the threads discusses a show on Fox network and this was posted as part of that thread by someone who now lives in MI but grew up and lived in England all but the last 3 years...(he's in his 40's)

It suddenly clicked, most Yanks do not get the subtelty of Brit humour.
i'll bet there are also a lot of stay home moms in the triangle too. Which doesnt really make sense, since they are rarely at home...LOL. Between carting the kids to/from school and activities and running errands and taking care of themselves, you are likely to see these moms out and about all day long.
Um excuse me, I forgot that everything one writes here as a "transplant" has to be disclaimer-ed with "I HOPE THIS DOESN'T OFFEND ANYONE..." Gosh, we're all adults.
When people talk about random subjects of life, places, people, America, I don't sit around being offended.
I'm not searching for points either.
Don't worry that is exactly how I felt when I get attacked for writing something that someone doesn't like. You call me a transplant but lord for bid we say anything rude. There is nothing wrong with calling it North cacky, my friend was born and raised in Fayetteville and that is what she calls it too.

I think a lot of us "transplants" are moving down to NC for this reason. The cost of living is much cheaper then up north, so after we sell our homes we have a great deal of money to pay off our cars and yes SUV's and to put a huge chunk down on our mortgage. Our husbands can go to work and our children can be raised by their mothers and not by a daycare. I stopped working for my children's sake. I will substitute teach if my husband is off that day (he is in law enforcement so he gets weekdays off sometimes), and he works a second job a few times a month for our extra money. It works out great. I love being home with my child. It seems like so many women are unable to do this in todays world. My mom did it for me, so I feel I owe it to my children to do the same to them. i thought the same thing when I go to NJ to see family, this was before I had my child. The stores were PACKED during the day. I wondered don't these people work. Unfortunately they do not have to work because their husbands make so much money, because cost of living there is pretty high. But they easily bring home 100K a year up there.
North Raleigh Guy-- Actually reading your post made me think of Trader Joe's.
LOL!
Once again, I am sooooooo tired of everyone everywhere being OFFENDED by everything. OHMYGOSH. Do you know how many people talk to me about Washington, D.C. and its politics and B.u.sh, etc. as if because I'm from there, I have anything at all to do with the inner workings of the F.edera.l Govt?! I do not take offense. I also don't take offense when people generalize [fill in the blank] because that's life. People have OPINIONS, differences, slang, whatever.
Gosh, if I were Imus, would I be fired right now?
What does "cacky" mean anyway?
MrsSteel, you're correct-- I actually meant Cackalacky. Ooops, I said a bad word--will someone be escorting me to the state line?
There should be stocks in being offended.
Oy.
I died laughing when I saw the dialogue between posts. "North Cackalackee" isnt a derogatory term, rather its a nickname. Sometimes cities being 'renamed' is a cultural thing. For instance, where I am (Indianapolis) is referred to sometime as 'naptown' , Atlanta may be 'At-town', Miami is often called M-I-A, San Francisco is called 'The Bay' and NC is called 'Northcackalacka'----at least that's how I've known it for years. This is in reference to pop culture, music, etc- strictly from an underground standpoint. So I dont think the intentions were to be derogatory at all.

Yes, "North Cackalackee" is a bit more of a nickname, though from when I asked the natives I work with, not all find it a great one....but still don't consider it overly rude.
However, the orginal poster did not say "North Cackalackee" but something quite different.
My sweetie used to be a HouseHusband. When we moved to the Traingle, we decided to switch roles, so now I'm the one who stays home.
As for the "Yank" thing, I can tell you for certain - as an American who has lived in the UK & who is married to an Englishman - that some Brits refer to Americans as Yanks. Sometimes it's derogatory, but mostly it's a nickname that is accompanied by a wink (almost a term of endearment). However, I don't think I've ever heard anyone from the UK say "Yankee". That's a state-side thing.
And as for North Cackalacky (or is it Cackalackie?), I was introduced to the term by a white woman in her late 40s. She just thought it was a cute nickname for the state she loves. It's pretty fun to say, too!
