I moved to Cameron Village basically looking for the exact same things a year ago and I love it. Check out the Raleigh/Shamrock/Wedgwood Apartments for cheap and clean and walking distance to Cameron Village and Glenwood South. The great thing is you're 3 blocks away from everything but don't have to fight for parking and the like with downtown club hoppers.
Downtown, Glenwood South, and Cameron Village areas are where you want to look.
There is a brand new apartment complex in Glenwood South called 712 Tucker. The location is great. These are more on the high end as far as rent and amenities go.
The places mentioned by other posters are also great to check out. They are older and less expensive, but still a great location and a good deal if you are not looking for a luxury apartment. A few others you might want to look into are the Boylan Apartments and Cameron Court. The Bishop's Park area has a bunch of condos that are often rented out at reasonable prices, and this is also a good area that is walking distance to many things.
Other alternatives are to just search craigslist for the neighborhoods, or drive around looking for signs. That is how I found my apartment in Glenwood South. I really enjoy living in this part of town.
check out crabtree area, u will only be around 3-4 miles away , pay less than downtown, and in a way cleaner area. this is my .02.
cheers!
check out. edinborough commons on lynn and creedmore
I lived up Lynn Rd from there for the first year that I lived here. That area definitely is not my idea of living "close to night life and good restaurants" as the OP has in mind. You certainly can't safely walk to much in that area. I don't see how this area can be considered "cleaner" than downtown. It has that suburban feel, but the areas of downtown Raleigh that have been mentioned are certainly not dirty.
It is possible to pay reasonable rents downtown, and the location is much better for what the OP is looking for. If you don't need to live in a "luxury" apartment complex, there are a variety rental options downtown that are very reasonable. I am paying less rent downtown than what I paid for my "luxury" apartment in NW Raleigh for a bigger apartment where I can walk to everything downtown. I've had a much better experience living downtown than I did in NW Raleigh, because I was used to living in a vibrant neighborhood that was walkable to nightlife and other entertainment options.
To the OP, what is your price range, and what type of rental are you looking for? Do you want a complex with a bunch of amenities, or are amenities not a big priority?
Thanks to everyone for your help! I really appreciate it! I will def take a look at the places you suggested. Looking for something pretty descent but don't want anything too crazy expensive.
Looking for a one bedroom anywhere from $800-1000 if that is possible downtown..Thanks again, all suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I am a young professional (29) and will be moving to Raleigh at the beginning of the year and am somewhat familiar with the area..
I can't find where you say whether you're a "he" or a "she"? I guess it wouldn't matter in most cases, but there might be some places that are less safe for a single woman to live than a single man.
