If I had to do it all over again, I would go to eBay, and using appropriate search terms (such as "Lot girls clothes 6X" or "Lot boys clothes 6X"), and find clothes, either "Buy it Now" or via auction. For those not familiar with auction terms, a "lot" is an item offered that consists of many items for one price.

Many times there are name-brand clothes at very reasonable prices (factoring in shipping), and as we all know, most kids usually outgrow clothes before they wear them out, and sometimes they don't even wear all the clothes that we've bought them. (So the clothes for sale on eBay are in good shape.)

Then I'd sell them on eBay when they outgrew them.

My mother used to put iron-on rectangular denim patches on the knees of jeans for my three brothers. I guess nobody does that anymore. (It would now be considered "green" -- keeping one more item out of the landfill.)

Sounds like Sears and their Kid Advantage program is exactly what you need if he is ruining his clothes before he outgrows them.

I have a 6 year old girl and now I don't mind paying a little more for her clothes because her growth has slowed down and she's wearing things a lot longer than ever before. I get her clothes at The Children's Place, Target, Walmart, Gymboree, Old Navy etc. I love Crazy 8's prices, but haven't bought anything from there yet.

For my 1 year old tho his clothes come mostly from Walmart/Target.

The kids exchange at the fairgrounds starts on Jan 19th. It is the size of 2 Toys-r-us, they have kids cloths and toys. If you volunteer you get to shop before the public.

I don't shop at Wal-Mart. Ever. And Target clothes don't hold up that well for us. That being said, I do consignment at Kid-to-Kid in Apex; I have a 10 year old and a 7 year old who's very small for her age. I take in their outgrown clothes and get store credit for new ones--and my kids love shopping there b/c there are clothes from all different stores there so there are lots of styles!

I also second the Old Navy suggestion, but only on sale. Regular prices can be too much.

Thanks for all your posts. Went to Walmart ( sorry, PP, but I shop there regularly), and great deals. I got jeans for $8, $12, sweatshirts for $5 and full sleeve tshirts for $12. At these prices, it is unbeatable...

I used to buy a lot at Target in order to economize but the clothes seem to wear out rather quickly, or the seams are a bit "off"... they just look cheap. I find that with the constant sales & coupons, JC Penney's & Macy's are better- the prices are comparable (if not lower with the 50-75% off racks!) & the clothing is of a higher quality.
