DId you go to Heron's recently? They have a new chef. It was amazing the last couple times I was there, in the last 6 months.

Yes, I did, a couple of weeks ago.

I would rather have gone to Ruth Chris or Fins.

Sigh. . . . . I miss going out to nice restaurants with my wife for a quiet dinner. Now that we have 2 kids, we only hit places with counter service and paper napkins. I think it's time to get a baby sitter and try some of the places in this list

Both Foursquare & Second Empire are both more traditional classic dining but very very good. Not modern, but much more classy than Ruths Chris or some of the others mentioned here.

Agreed. I wouldn't call Ruth's Chris "fine dining." My rule of thumb is if they try to whisk away plates before everyone at the table has finished, it's not "fine dining."

Nana's in Durham is our favorite 'nicer restaurant' around here so far, but i haven't tried any of the other places mentioned in this thread, either.

I agree, Ruth Chris isn't "fine dining," but at least you are full when you leave. Makes it easier to pay the $$$ bill versus Heron's.
