I have read a few posts lately about teachers being moved around as the district wishes - Is this true in anyway? Can they really just move you from school to school as they please???

Union or no union, they do that everywhere. My old district in NJ used to move teachers to other schools within the district. Numbers change every year so they have to accomodate every school for smaller class sizes.

Yes, teachers can be reassigned among schools but school districts rarely "force" teachers to move because it engenders a lot of resentment and the last thing that schools need are teachers quitting en masse because of a policy.

I live in a union state and forcing teachers to move happens all the time. It made be done through an evaluation, or other subtle means but it happens. As numbers change, schools progress changes, etc...these things do happen. The only teachers I know that have been fortunate to spend their entire career in 1 or 2 buildings are about to retire or have already retired. That is unheard of now.

I have only been teaching for 5 years in a very rural part of NY. In NY, each school is it's own district so there is no such thing as being assigned anywhere else. Especially because we are so small. Should we be buying a home based on my husband's job location because of the fact that Wake can assign you to a new school? Or is it relatively unlikely that I would be moved. (I teach Chemistry if that makes a difference). Thanks!
