I can order it online, but I'd rather just go out and buy a rock collection kit, similar to this: Rocks and Minerals Basic Set, Grades 5-12

Is there a specialty shop with such gifts in the Raleigh area?

You might want to try learning express in North Hills or in Cary on Tryon Road....also there is a Science store in Kildaire Farm in Cary that might have this kind of thing also. It is called the Science Safari.

The Teach Me store in North Raleigh, corner of Spring Forest and Capital, used to have all that stuff when my kids were little.

Science Safari in Saltbox Village in Cary used to carry them. I bought one for my daughter there years ago.

Maybe call the stores in the local museums? Like the Natural History in Ral or Life and Science in Durham.

brentwood I have to admit when I first read your title I thought you were looking for a Kid Rock collection and was going to say most records shops have those but further reading informed me you wanted real rocks. Sorry to say I don't know where to find those locally.

Do "Hobby Shops" exist anymore? Raleigh natives surely have fond memories of the one that was at North Hills Mall, as well as the one at Cameron Village, but since those two are (long) gone, I can't recall seeing such a store--but I haven't been looking.

Hungate's in Cary Towne Center has RC cars, scale model kits, model rockets, etc. They could have something like a rock collection kit.
