Hi. Relocating from New York. I've been checking real estate listings and love some of the older homes I see in the Watts-Hillandale area (9th Street). I've heard really mixed things about the schools. I have a daughter who will be entering Kindergarten in a year and part of why we are moving to NC is for the schools. I just love the old houses and want to be able to walk to a "downtown" area--shops, restaurants, etc. So, I am open but am looking for old style houses, good schools and a living "in-town" feel. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

We were quite impressed with Montessori Children's House, which we toured along with several other Montessori schools. You might want to investigate all your options. The Montessori magnet schools (Poe and Watts) both sound good.
