I'm planning to host a watch party for the University of Oregon vs Ohio State game at the Rose Bowl. I am pretty new to the area and don't know a good place to watch it. Can anyone recommend a good sports bar? Is there anything over at Southpoint in Durham? I figure that Durham is a good, central location since people could be coming from Raleigh or Chapel Hill.

I haven't been there, but there is a Champs Sports Bar located along the outside part of Southpoint Mall. I imagine they have a lot of TVs and will have the game on.

Champs is nice and definately has a ton of TV's but the drinks are expensive. Not sure about Durham but in Raleigh/Cary there are a bunch of good spots to watch the game. Carolina Ale House in Cary, Tobacco Road Sports Cafe in Raleigh (Glenwood South), Spirits in Cary, Sammy's right at the NC State campus is a great place to catch a game.

I think Carolina Ale House is a great suggestion and very centrally located. According to the CAH website, they have smoking and non-smoking sections. Can anyone who has been there tell me if the smoking there is heavy enough to be a problem? I'm pretty sensitive to cigarette smoke.

Has anyone been to Carolina Ale House to watch the Rose Bowl? Do you know if they normally play it there?

They will definately have the Rose Bowl on.....too many TV's NOT to have it on; especially on New Year's Day. The bar can be smoky there but it really depends on if people near you are smoking. If not, it is big enough where the smoke doesn't linger.

It will be the last smoky Rose Bowl. The Wake County smoking regulations go into effect the next day. (HURRAY!)
