I know I'm a little late to the game here, but if you're driving to Little Rock, I'd suggest taking a southernly route rather than just heading West. I grew up in Durham and went to college in Memphis, so I drove that stretch of I-40 FAR too many times...and by my senior year, I found that taking 85 to Atlanta, then 20 to Birmingham, and 78 to Memphis took the same amount of time as taking 40 the whole way. And now with the closure from the rock slide, it's guaranteed to be faster.
I looked up the progress of the clean up and the DOT says that they are in the final phase and it should be re-oppened in March. So, a clean up that was originally said to last up to two months will take six. WTG, NC DOT! You're doing a heck of a job, Brownie!
