I see all these 60's and I think how cold I'd be. I keep our Heat on 74. I wouldn't fathom setting it lower. My wife and I like it warm / hot. Of course, in the summer we also have the air on 76 or so... Basically, our home is around 74 - 76 all year around
I'll gladly pay the few extra bucks a month to keep it a little more warm. I love the envionment and all, but I don't buy into the lower you thermostat so you don't kill ruin the Earth for future generations.
Day: upstairs 63, daylight basement 63-65 (up from 62 for both last year)
Night: upstairs 55, basement 58
No programmable thermostat
Upstairs uses a heat pump. Downstairs has a separate heat pump, with propane backup for when it's very cold. Sometimes mid-day I turn the heat pump higher downstairs (66-68!) to bring in the heat while it's cheap. The basement holds heat well, so it isn't wasted.
My husband works in his office upstairs and wears warm clothes. I move around a lot - indoors and out. The only time I get cold is in the evening. Once I'm in bed I get hot, not cold, even at 55.
We make up for the cold by being extra-hot during the summer.
I think it depends on the space you are heating/cooling...
In our old house we'd keep it at 68. In our current home I'm FREEeeezing if it's at 68! Dh and I have the thermostat war daily but I like it at 72 and he'd prefer it at 70.
Burrr..... You guys are making me chilly. I keep my heat in the 70's both downstairs and upstairs all the time. I figure the expensive is offset by keeping the A/C on 78 all summer.
I'm setting it at 66 during the day, 65 at night. It sounds weird, but the extra degree at night is just too warm for me.
Not wierd at all - I find that a degree or two makes a big difference in whether I get a good night's sleep.
