Electricity: http://www.duke-energy.com/

Gas: http://www.psncenergy.com/en/

Water: http://www.owasa.org/

Cable: http://www.timewarnercable.com/NC/default.html

I am not sure you have a choice in any of these if you are within city limits.

We just signed up for phone service. I found PioneerTelephone.com, which has much lower intrastate rates in NC than most of the other long distance providers.

Get Sunrocket VOIP for your phone. They usually have a special on major holidays (Memorial Day is coming up) giving you a year for 1/2 price. Comes out to about $8 a month for me with no long distance charges! I've had them for about a year with no problems.
