I don't think the main road through FV is any different than the main road through Holly Springs or the main road through Apex. It's all commercialized. The main difference is that Apex has Beaver Creek that opened within the past few years. Otherwise, they are all relatively similar. Regarding your bank account links, I suppose that this also means that since Apex and Cary have check cashing establishments and (heaven forbid) Hispanic-oriented establishments, that this speaks to the relevant wealth of their communities along with Fuquay.
I worked in the restaurant business for 5 years, both in the Preston area of Cary and at a popular establishment around Holly Springs. Your isolated experience at the FV Pizza Hut is actually quite common in the restaurant industry if only you had the opportunity to observe the kitchen. Thus, I don't think your note is reflective of Fuquay but rather the restaurant business as a whole. And I know that you are trying not "to be biased", but you seem to imply that the only reason you don't go to the Wal-Mart in FV is because you were one of the only people there who spoke English. Thus, the reason you don't go is because you don't want to shop with Spanish speaking people. I'm missing the non-biased part here.
Regardless, you don't live in Fuquay so I take your observations and opinions with the necessary grain of salt. I have lived here for 5 years now and when I had the opportunity to move two years ago to HS, Cary or Apex, I decided to stay and am happy with my decision. Fuquay has changed a lot in the 5 years that I have been here and I must say that it has changed primarily for the better.

Excellent and I am glad you like living there and trust you and many others do also. However I am making comments as a casual observer just as possible home buyer might and that was the direction part of the conversation was heading towards. I also took care to post the information about the number of people without bank accounts in a separate post so that the two would not overlap. I am a minority and know that many in the majority don't want to live in a minority setting if they can avoid it. Thus the relevance to housing cost and the future direction of any given community.
Also I don't doubt that the arm pit incident occurs in the back kitchen but in the middle of the establishment on display is a tad unusual. Sure Cary has checking cashing services and also has trailers. It also has much upscale new and a buzz about it that helps housing prices. The reason I used the phrasing about bank accounts and the relative wealth of a community is that the article identifies limited financial assets as a primary reason for not having an account. Thus the thought about the relative wealth of a community since wealth is: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wealth

I agree.
My family and I purchased a home in Fuquay almost 2 years ago. When we were house hunting, we looked at Apex, Holly Springs and Fuquay. I am still happy that I chose Fuquay over the other two towns, both of which are nice, but just didn't feel right for me.
Fuquay may be commercialized along 401, but the best thing about it is that it is all contained on that one strip. The rest of the town still has the rural feeling we were looking for when we moved to the area.
As far as the check cashing place and Aaron's Rents or any other business that I would prefer not to see around, I will just avoid them like I would avoid the same establishments that can be found in Apex, HS, Cary, Raleigh, or in any area. I don't like that these places exist in my town, but, I've been around enough to know that they are everywhere.
As a resident of Fuquay, I know there's a growing element of lower class business coming to the town. I don't think there's a plan for the town at all. But, there must be a need, or the businesses won't survive. I'm just glad I bought on the north side of town so I have the option of shopping or dining in both HS and Fuquay. Also, some may take this the wrong way, but here goes.....Go compare the Walmart in Fuquay and the one in Holly Springs on any given Sunday afternoon. Look at who's shopping. I can't stand the Fuquay Walmart. Beyond depressing. Now bring on some new pawn and check cashing establishments and Fuquay will be well on its way to Garner. I know, flame away...but it's the truth.
...no flames, just a nod. Unfortunately the town is attracting these businesses and is not trying to move forward in any way. These aren't down home, mom and pop shops this town is sporting -- I mean seriously, if you're at the point where you need bullet proof glass at a store next to HT -- how long before HT runs out of here screaming like their hair is on fire? My husband and I notice it too, it's gone from a small country town to one I want to drive through *above* the speed limit to exit faster.

That was my point. the bullet proof glass in the store. I mean thats plain BS. the store is a blight on the area. too bad I said it and will stand by it.
I remember a couple of years ago, around 2005 probably, the state was fighting these payday loan places because they essentially fleece people of their money. They ended up passing some law that essentially made them illegal to operate. How is it that they're back in operation? Changed the terms of their "loans"?
The check cashing place is no longer open next to Harris Teeter in Fuquay. Don't know if it was Harris Teeter or legal issues or lack of business or what, but it didn't last terribly long.

Even though the original thread is a few years old, it is nice to have a current update. Helps to know when people search for Fuquay! Thanks!
