I live in Cary and periodically experience problems with alarm system having conflict with Vonage Voice-over-internet. My current alarm provider simply states they only recommend having a dedicated land land ($33/month from ATT).
I am looking for expertise who can take standard Honeywell alarm system and make it work with internet calling to the monitoring central location. Any inputs would be appreciated. Thanks much,
Thanks, Mia78, the thread is helpful. If I were going to purchase a new system, then the FrontPoint would sure be considered.
Given I already have the wired, conventional setup (Honeywell control panel), maybe there is a cellular device that will work with my current equipment.
We have the same issue so we maintain a landline for home and use vonage for a business line.
We actually have a similar problem with our fax machine on our vonage line.
I find I can only fax out long distance before 9am in the morning or so. Anytime after that, I get errors galore.
I am not sure i'd trust my alarm monitoring to vonage. We get sketchy service. Which is fine b/c it rolls to voice mail if the call cannot go through (incoming) and we have the reliable land line for when it goes out completely. and cell.
haven't considered a cell modem. might have to give that some research. it has to be cheaper than the $22 a month for the landline.
WeLuvNC,
Who is your land line service provider for $22/month?
Thanks,
