Hi all,

We are moving from Durham to the Apex area this spring in order to shorten our commutes. I work in Downtown Apex and my husband works in SW Raleigh. We are looking for a good family neighborhood, friendly neighbors, with a pool, lots of (young) kids with great schools. Our kids are 2 and 5. We are open to Holly Springs or Cary, but prefer Apex. We are looking for 4-5 bedrooms, under $400k.

Anyone have any suggestions and/or places/schools to AVOID? We have driven through: Abbington, Walden Creek, Haddon Hall, Seagroves Farm (new). Anyone live in these neighborhoods and have feedback? Any great neighborhoods we are missing?

We have also considered NW Cary in the Mills Park or Highcroft school districts. Would be longer commutes and less sq foot for the $, but we would do it if the schools are really that much better than Apex.

Thanks!
Kat

Walden Creek is IMO the best neighborhood in Apex all around. It is where we would have bought for sure if we had stayed in NC. Walking distance to Beaver Creek and the only neighborhood that has direct access to both Highways (55 & 64). The only thing is I believe it was reassigned to Panther Creek high school instead of Apex High which is much closer and more "community oriented"; though with your kids being as young as they are that wouldn't make much of a difference for now. Haddon Hall would also fit your bill and last I heard was still assigned to all Apex schools.

You might want to consider Holly Springs area and the homes near Middle Creek (technically in Apex) but east of Kildaire Farm. There are a lot of newer homes in your price range, and decent commute to Downtown Apex and SW Raleigh.

There are alot of great neighborhoods off Olive Chapel Road--dogwood ridge, pearson farms, becketts crossing. I love this area and is close to Beaver Creek. Also excellent schools. I also like Walden Creek but not sure of 540 coming in.

Have you checked out The Park At West Lake and Sunset Oaks?

My DH and I are relocating and though we LOVED Walden Creek, 540 is going to apparently be running right through its backyard. We aren't going to chance it. If it weren't for that, we'd be all over that subdivision. As pp mentioned, the area off Olive Chapel seems like a better bet.

My husband and I just purchased a home in West Lake, nestled between Ten Ten Road and Optimist Farm Road on West Lake. It's right in your price range, brand new, and a nice quiet community with pool and plenty of kids from what I have seen, even in this cold weather. The address is Apex, but the houses are technically in Cary, so you get the Cary schools. The West Lake schools are right across the community as well. Good luck!

Technically there are no Apex, Cary, Holly Spring schools. All areas are Wake county schools. I too like the homes over by West Lake but for some reason the area just wasn't for me. But only you can decide. Drive through all the areas mentioned and really check out the area around the homes, ie shopping, etc. I think you will do well with any of these mentioned areas. It really comes down to what feels right for you. Again in the areas mentioned all the schools are Wake county schools, not neighborhood schools.

We moved into WoodCreek in Holly Springs last year but we have an Apex address. The amenities in our neighborhood are going to be awesome (big pool opening this summer). We love it here so far and the families here are also great!

Thanks, all, for your feedback! We will check these areas out. Any feedback about Middle Creek Elementary school?
