I'm hosting a few friends over Memorial Day weekend and was wondering if anyone could offer some suggestions on things to do. Any events going on, fireworks, etc? I'm new to the area as well and have only been here 2 months.

We are all in our mid 20's without kids. A beach would be great, but we don't really want to be traveling in the car too much since my guests are already driving down about 6 hours to visit. Any cool places to walk around nearby? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Falls Lake, Lake Jordan, Kerr Lake are the biggies. I am sure that Friday's N&O will have plenty listed in their "What's up?" section.

I know that amphitheater in Cary (Koko booth?) has fireworks. Get there early (BRING CHAIRS, COOLER, ETC) and get a spot in front of the lake.

The Duke Gardens are beautiful at this time of year. And the Raleigh Farmer's Market is lots of fun too.

And then there's always strawberry picking, Jordan Lake, museums, etc.
