I had read about the Bodies exhibition a few months ago and just discovered it's currently in Durham at Streets at Southpoint, which was a surprise since the other cities it's going to be at are much larger (DC, NYC, etc). The bodies are from China, which like the US, allows unclaimed bodies that die by natural means to be used for medical study/research.

There is some controversy attached to their use:

My purpose is not to start a debate however, but rather to see if people would be interested in seeing the exhibit as a group? It's supposed to highlight various health concerns such as the effects alcohol and tobacco can have, as well as show how some diseases attack the body. Any other biology geeks out there?

Oh here's the info on the local exhibit. It'll be there through Aug 2007

This may not be the best place for a first time meetup. My daughter saw this in exhibit in another city. Her boyfirend turned green and had to sit it out and another visitor vomited.

I realize it's an unusual suggestion, but I thought some out there might be up for some interesting discussion, doubling with a trip to Southpoint.

Presumably...people with strong stomachs who are fascinated (rather than disturbed) by body parts and systems

If noone's interested, then the thread will just sink out of sight, and hopefully out of memory if everyone thinks I'm a freak for mentioning the exhibition

Indioblue,
if we were there now I'd go with you! Anatomy was my favorite class in college. Love seeing how everything works and connects together.

I saw the Bodies flyer while I was there but did not get a chance to go. They have multiple exhibits traveling the country is what I heard. It's coming to Portland in June. I plan to go before I leave.

If you go, let me know what you think! Have fun!

I'll go! I wanted to go when my sis was here but we didn't want to pay to take 3 year olds in.
