I know it's only 3.5 hours, but in the middle of our house hunt to Raleigh, we will now need to attend a relative's funeral in Asheville. Given the limited amount of time that we have and the fact that our kids are very small and a total of 7 hours in the car in two days will get crazy - is it possible we can do a commuter flight from Raleigh to Asheville?
What I saw on Expedia was over $400 and hours to get there... but surely that can't be right?
We'll drive if we have to, but wondering, if there is something like a $99 roundtrip commuter flight that takes 30 minutes or so?
There aren't any direct commercial flights from here to Asheville. That's why expedia is showing hours to get there (because there will be a connection somewhere, probably far out of the way). Sorry, but you'll be driving unless you have big bucks to charter a plane.
Way back when there were direct flights. You may want to look at AirTran as I don't think they participate in Expedia. Again, you have to connect through Atlanta and it may be better off spending the money on a DVD player in the car and make the drive. It really isn't that bad of a trip.
It def. wouldn't be worth it. When you account for travel time at the airport such as having to be there an hour ahead of time...leaving the house 45 minutes before that to allow time for parking, airport delays which are usually inevitable you're better off driving!
A charter plane is going to run some major $$ and not save much time. About the smallest you could get away with would be a Navajo. I don't know what the going rate on them is nowadays but probably around $800/hr. So you're talking at least $1600 roundtrip for that, and they will have a fee to wait overnight to bring you back, probably at least $500 if not more.
My guess is, with everything, you're talking $3k to save 2.5 hours each way max.
