I've googled but haven't come up with anything. Does someone know where one could go to have car seat technicians check the installation of a car seat, if it's the proper seat, etc?
any police or fireman can generally do it. I have taken mine to the police station and the firestation and they were very helpful to me. Call ahead if you can and make an appointment.
We took ours to the firestation, and the first one we went to they had no clue if it was installed right. We have the Britax Boulevard, and it has all these straps to it, uncluding the latch system. My own husband is a police officer and they weren't even sure. Finally we called Britax and they said we could actually go to where we bought it, Babies R Us and they were trained in installing the Britax.
I don't know where you are in the Triangle but the firestation in Morrisville will do it and the are really helpful and friendly there. The firestation is on the corner of Chapel Hill Rd. (Hwy 54) and Morrisville Carpenter/Aviation Parkway. I am sure like the others have said that any firestation will do it. Good luck.
The firestation in Morrisville is PHENOMINAL. They installed both my car seats and showed me how to do it properly. They were so friendly. I tried to give them a tip (only $5) but they refused to take it. I wrote a letter to their supervisor instead. Go there-its WELL worth it. The Cary fire dept was much less helpful.
When I lived in apex I went to the apex fire station, not so helpful. The guy (who said he was a certified technician) took out my seat and reinstalled it WORSE than it was........
I have always gone to the highway patrol station on blue ridge. They have been the MOST helpful. They have a full time patrol officer who exclusively works with car seat installation, etc.
He also give you a little talk about all of the "things" in the car that might prove damaging to children if you are in an accident. He rethreaded my car seats, and was very helpful.
If you live close to that part of raleigh it is definitely worth the trip
Well, I can find my way to Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh (we're in Cary) but not sure I can find the Morrisville fire station again. But that's because I'm still getting very lost a lot.
I always laugh at the 'Antiques' shop across the street from the fire station. Some awful stuff there someone is trying to pass off as an 'antique'. Like broken plastic lawn chairs.
Anyway, thank you for the recommendations, everyone. I'm going to check out the links as well now.
