We are moving to the Raleigh area and want to find out what the best school districts are and the ones to stay away from? Also considering private schools, any suggestions??

What age are your kids? What are their interests? Where will you be working. There are many good choices in the area...in fact, more good ones then bad....
One thing....school districts here are county wide with only a few notable exceptions (Chapel Hill is separate from Orange County is the main example of that).

What part of the triangle are you moving to? Each district has their pros and cons. I wouldn't say that ny one of them are "the best". It's more about what fits your family and lifestyle.
ALso, in Raleigh, all of the schools are in the same district run by the same board. ALso, if you look into Private schools, lou might look into charter schools as well.
If you buy in Wake County be aware that your base schools could change in any given year and your children bused miles away from your home.
...though you should also be aware that this is part of a socioeconomic (not racially-based) diversity program that is nationally acclaimed for bringing low-income students' performance up to higher levels than are seen in districts that have "rich students schools" and "poor students schools." The Wake system has been acclaimed in the NY Times and is an outstanding example of a high-performing school district.

That is not the full story...or even fully accurate.
Yes, kids may not go to the very closest school....but there are rules and it's not like they are being sent to a school without a geographical connection to a neighborhood.
Also, the reassignments are not random. There are going to be more of them as new schools open, that is for sure....but what do you suggust they do? Build new schools and not fill them?

You bring up a good point but this is a problem with any large school system. If you want to be sure that your kids are going to attend a certain school you have to move to a smaller system where all the choices are good (Chapel Hill - Carrboro) or go private.
