Any suggestions for renting/moteling for 2 weeks to 1 month at a time to get a feel for the area before moving from NY?

Try this - found it on the web when my daughter was going back there, which got postponed. Don't know how good these places are, but they are extended residence like hotels.

Default crestwood suites in durham

we just spent 2 nights there. Its average price, but GREAT accomodations, like a small one bedroom apartment. its in the very southeast corner of Durham, totally accessible to the triangle, etc. get the first floor, and you actually have a bit of a yard.

Be sure to also shop around the various hotels and extended stay hotels, since they can vary a lot from one location to another. Don't forget to get the hotels' VIP/members cards and to figure in how much you would save by having a Business Center with FREE prints, faxes, and internet service.

One does not have to have a kitchen to have all the neccessarities of a kitchen -- just bring along a portable burner, request a microwave in the room, request or bring along a portable fridge, and bring along paper/plasticwear. Actually with staying in town for a month or two, buy your plasticwear at a local Dollar Store/Tree instead of bringing it with you.

Bring a pop-up laundry basket for tossing in your dirty clothes, especially if staying at one hotel for a week or longer.

Buy the All Mighty size laundry detergent. It does just as many loads but takes up a lot less space. Remember laundry detergent sample boxes normally costs $1 each.

Hope this helps some. Have a wonderful trip!

I've had clients stay in the Extended Stay on Tryon Road, near Cary. I've had clients stay in the Candlewood Suites near Crabtree. Both thought they were priced well and clean and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Definitely bring some kitchen stuff...the last time I stayed in one of those, there was a coffee mug, 2 glasses, and one plate.
