Hello all,

It appears that I may have landed a job in Durham, zip 27707. I think this is on the border of Chapel Hill & Durham. I am coming down from Minnesota in April to meet with my realtor, who has not shown me any properties in Durham as of yet. Any areas I should be looking for? I would rather not drive very long to get to work...my current commute is about 10 minutes so I am a bit spoiled. I almost 31 yrs old, single professional female. I am looking for a townhouse, preferably one near trails so I can bike and walk my dog. I have been scouring craigslist, but it is proving to be difficult since I am not as familiar with the area. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you!!!

Woodcroft is neighborhood with a 27707 zip code. Good townhouses and homes, near I-40 and restaurants/shops, and walking distance to American Tobacco Trail (walk/bike trail through Durham)

I second Woodcroft. There are trails all throughout the neighborhood, and it's not far to the American Tobacco Trail. I think most of it is in 27713 zip, but it's not far at all to 27707. It's convenient to everything.

In addition to Woodcroft that the other posters mentioned, there are:
1) new townhomes not far from the American Tobacco Trail called Stratford Lakes. I have a friend that lives there. She's single and about your age and likes it.
Moderator cut: Links to realtor sites/real estate listings are not allowed, per the Terms of Service (zip code 27713)
2) newer townhomes in Hope Valley Farms. I think they're called Elm Grove. (zip code 27713)
3) older townhomes in a really wooded setting. Five Oaks (zip code 27707)
4) The Landing at Southpoint- expensive but nice (zip code 27707) You can easily jump on the southern end of the American Tobacco Trail
5) older townhomes in American Village off from Constitution Drive (zip code 27705). You have Duke Forest as your backyard.
6) new and older townhomes off from Pickett Road and Garrett Road (zip code 27705 and 27707) You aren't from from Duke Forest.
It really depends on what you are looking for in a townhome and your price point. You should definitely get a Durham realtor to help you out. Good luck!

Woodcroft is actually 27713, which is a great zip code to look at in Durham.

When we searched on craigslist for my area we used the word "southpoint". I am in the newer section of SW Durham. The tobacco trail continues on my side of I-40 out towards Raleigh. I am a recent transplant who is amazed how few trails are around for walking the dogs. The tobacco trail is nice, but prefer quieter trails when walking my dogs. The bikes zooming up behind you can get a bit overwhelming.
