I had a neighbor once who had a big sign by their door that said:
"NO SOLICITING
NO WITNESSING
NO KIDDING!"
(It used to just say "No soliciting" but after people from a church group kept knocking on the door he added the rest)
And Vicki, someone gave me a cute GO AWAY mat when I lived in Greensboro and my apartment was way off in a corner of the building. When I moved to Cary, my apartment door was in a busy hallway. I came home one day to find that someone had turned my mat face down. That gave me a chuckle. So before I flipped it back over I taped a big note on the bottom that said "I didn't mean YOU!"
Wow. I'm floored that the OP has any "real" doubt the sign applies to him and every other "survey taker" that has no regard for anyone's wishes but their own. Just because a survey taker wants to conduct a survey with a person it doesn't mean that person wants to oblige their wants. I NEVER DO. I DON'T WANT TO SO I DON'T. And why on earth would I give my personal info to a stranger? (Who I'm sure is looking to sell something from it/make a profit.) And why would I
Put down my work or hobby or rest to accommodate that? Why would I open my door to a stranger, that's dangerous!! And WHY ARE YOU OBSESSED WITH 1 HOME? (That home has something you see as a prime target for what's actually being sold, not "surveyed"?) I don't believe this is the only house that's been seen with one. OP probably seeing several and wants to know about ignoring them for his personal wants. I LOATHE PEOPLE WHO COME TO MY DOOR IF NOT INVITED OR A FRIEND/NEIGHBOR. I'm not alone in my stance. BION, I'm actually a nice, caring, outgoing person. What I do for a living and my dogs make a knock on the door a substantial interruption. And I'm sick of it. And solicitors need permits here, yet I probably get 8 non permitted and 1 permitted per week. Don't get me started on the stupid realtor flyers and tree trimmers cards! My dogs still bark and I still have to stop and re-do my work! (Not only the several door to door intruders, the gardeners (including our own) and the cats, who aren't mine and live to be here instead the rot own house -buts that another thing I'm "gardening" to change...there's so many other interruptions, solicitors OF ALL KINDS-INCLUDING SURVEY TAKERS, RELIGIOUS MISSIONARIES...are far too frequent. Our street used to all use the same gardener and it was one day- now all diff gardeners /all different schedules.). I'm looking for signs on line and found this. Perhaps the solicitors can stop their agenda and do some if my chores, that's what would suit me better but they don't care about what I want.
Back to the original question--It seems to me that the resident DID get the letter about the survey and the No Trespassing sign was his response. You will not be welcome. Don't push your luck. At the very least, no one will come to the door and you will just make someone frustratedly angry.

Which was asked 5 years ago! I imagine the situation was resolved, one way or another...a long time ago.
haven't we made it pretty clear that your survey/solicitation/charitable endeavor is not considered as important as the property holder's right to privacy?
