Hello,
I will start working at Duke university in august and will be relocating from Sweden, Europe with my husband and 3 children (4,6 and 8 years old). We have a lot of questions regarding schools and where to live. We would prefer not to love to far away from Duke but at the same time we would like to live in an area where the children can go biking and we can take walks/go jogging. At the same time we like ti kids to go to a nice friendly not to competitive school with traditional calendar. Any recommendations are appreciated.

What do you consider not too far from Duke? Chapel Hill-Carrboro is a great school system and is next to Durham.

I think you will really like Hillsborough. My neighborhood here is a 15 minute commute to Duke, has good schools (traditional calendar), and Hillsborough is a charming, small Southern town. We have the benefit of being next to two college towns so we can enjoy all the perks without having to live through some of the craziness. We just moved to NC from the northern US and had a great realtor so if you are not already working with one I'd be happy to make an introduction for you. Whatever you choose, good luck. It's a big move! A friend of mine did the reverse move several years ago, living now in Gustavsberg outside of Stockholm. Lovely...but COLD!
