We thought we had a small problem with shingles needing to be replaced on our roof, but it appears to be a larger problem with soggy plywood and everything. Does anyone have some good recommendations for a roofing company that won't overcharge? We're in Northeast Raleigh (almost Rolesville, almost Wake Forest).
Someone just posted about this in the last week or so.

I did a fair amount of searching, but I must not have searched for the right phrase to find the thread you mentioned. I only saw recommendations for Ark Roofing in Apex which seemed too far from North Raleigh.
Ark goes all over the triangle. They specialize in only smaller roof jobs though IIRC.
I sincerely hope it's a smaller roof job, thanks for letting me know they go all over the Triangle, I was interested in getting a quote from them, but they don't have a website or anything, so I assumed they were a small company that likely stayed near Apex.
Check out Hilliard Construction out of Apex. They did our roof in November of 2008 and the cost was very reasonable. We had our entire roof replaced, along with several pieces of plywood, and we had a few extras added to the roof as well.
They were very neat and clean too. I've heard horror stories from friends when they had their roofs done about nails and trash everywhere. If it had not been for the fact I had a brand new roof on my house I would NEVER have known they were at my house, it was spotless.
If you are shopping for a roofer, we encourage folks to do their homework first.
Find out if they are insured, financially stable, have references from previous jobs, etc. But, probably most importantly is to find out if they offer a warranty on their LABOR; and if they do offer a labor warranty, ask over what time period.
In our area it seems that almost all roofing contractors violate the shingle manufacturer's installation instructions by "high nailing" and "three nailing". Most shingle manufacturers now market 25, 30 and 40 year shingles.
Shouldn't the labor used to install these shingles last as long as the materials?
I just had Roofwerks do my roof. I shopped around, their price was very fair and the work excellent.
I had 3 contact ppl available for me when the work was in progress - the onsite supervisor, his boss and of course the sales person. I was here the whole time and checked to see what and how they were doing it. I was impressed with their attention to detail, and the excellent clean up they did.
When pitching for the job the salesman gave me a nice pkg containing general info, references, insurance info, etc. Normally you have to ask for the insurance and reference materials. He said that I do not need to pay until the final walk thru and I'm pleased with the work and the clean up...this is a first!
When they were thru the 2nd supervisor came back to be sure they had cleaned up all the trash and nails. He did a walk-thru with me to make sure I was happy with everything - before I paid, just as the salesman had said earlier!
Within a couple of days of them finishing the job I received a nice thank you note from the owner. They are a class act, very professional!
