Hi, I have an elderly neighbor who needs to have a procedure done, and I'm going to be out of town - I'm about to google, but I wonder if anyone knows offhand of some programs/transportation options for seniors needing to go to/from Duke U. Hospital? She can take a cab there, but they will not release her to a cab. Trying to help her out, feel bad that I will be on vacation at that time :-/

Thanks!

Sorry I don't know of anything like this for Durham. I went through something like this for a parent during the last few years in Raleigh. Each city and county has different transportation services.

If you don't find anything, you may want to just ask the hospital, if you haven't already. They should be used to a question like this. Good luck, and that is nice of you to be helpful to your neighbor.

The Red Cross can usually be involved for something like this situation. Give them a call.

There is an organization called A Helping Hand that I believe provides this sort of service for the elderly. A Helping Hand

I don't have first hand knowledge of it, but today someone mentioned a company called Home Instead and that they provide this type of service. Might be worth a call.

It's very kind of you to be so thoughtful toward your neighbor.

Yes, ACCESS provides this service. I'm not sure if she'd meet the qualifications though. You can call the number to find out.
