There seems to be a new trend...dessert shops and yogurt shops are popping up everywhere!
Vicki
Piebird is not really a "dessert shop". It is a restaurant with a bar (they are just waiting on their liquor license) that happens to specialize in pies, both savory and sweet.

Here is a picture of the Chicken Curry hand pie and the Spinach Feta hand pie that was posted on facebook. The crust is very light and flaky. They also serve larger full-size portions of Shepherd's pie, Chicken Pot pie, etc. Hand pies, dessert pies, and soups change daily. This is what they served yesterday: Today's specials. Soup: corn chowder, Veg: butternut squash mash, mexican slaw, Hand Pies: curried chicken, curried vegetable, spinach & feta, black bean, reuben. Dessert Pies: cherry, lemon meringue, coconut cream, apple, chocolate cream.
Definitely worth a try and, as I said in a previous post, my friend and I ate lunch for less than $10 apiece.

You post that like it's a good thing. $10 for lunch is a lot at least in my opinion. I better feel like I'm going to bust open when I get through with lunch for that price.

Let me know what full-service restaurant you're going to downtown for lunch that includes a side, drink, and tip for $10 - I wanna go there!
Actually I rarely eat at chains (other than Bojangle's, gotta have the Bo's). I'm just not going to overspend for food.
It's all subjective. If you could point to a place located downtown (or in the burbs) that provides the same food and service for lunch at a lower price then your arguement that this establishment is "overpriced" would have merit.
$10 for lunch (including tip) is pretty typical for downtown Raleigh. FWIW, I don't think non-chain places are trying to mooch off the demographic that is looking to stuff their face with a Mcdonald's value meal or offerings from the Golden Corral trough. Although when you think about it, eating lunch at those places can get you pretty close to spending $10 these days.

I'm going to agree with NRG. When I go out to lunch I almost expect to pay around $10 now a days, but that usually means I get my worth. I don't mind spending that much if I leave content. I'm usually a good tipper anyways so even if my meal was just $6 I could leave a potential $4 tip if the service didn't suck.
