Water temp, crowd level, cleanliness, traffic, etc? How does it compare right now to peak time in the middle of the summer?

Obviously warm enough this weekend to head down to Myrtle or one of the smaller beaches on the NC coast - what beach do you guys go to and is it good around this time?

We're headed to Wrightsville beach to stay in my family's inn this weekend. IMO, as a native who has grown up around NC beaches, it's WAY too cold to swim, but the beaches themselves are wonderful and warm. The water temps are still in the 50's right now and I don't put my big toe in until they're in the 70's.

We were at Myrtle last week and it was wonderful. It was warm enough to swim in the outdoor heated pool during the day and the indoor in the evening. We spent the days on the beach in the sand and flying kites. The water is still pretty chilly, but the kids were playing up to their knees. This is my favorite time at the beach because it isn't packed. I love a good 93 degree day on the beach, but with 2 little ones it's a lot easier to go out to eat without waiting forever. Plus my nerves aren't a mess because of a million people in the pool with the kids.

If I'd known the weather was going to be this good we would have booked something at Carolina/Kure for this weekend. Growing up we spent Easter at Carolina beach. There's always a good crowd down there on Easter.

We went 2 years ago to the Outer Banks mid-March. I was shocked that the old and relatively reasonably priced oceanfront hotel was filled to capacity. Many of the visitors were from Europe. There was plenty of traffic.

The ocean was far too cold for swimming, but it was a wonderful trip as far as the temperature -- great for sightseeing and for walking on the beach. Restaurants were no problem; we made reservations, and we never needed to wait.

We're in North Myrtle Beach now for the weekend. Things are picking up for the Easter Weekend. The water is too cold for my liking this time of year, and the temps for the weekend are going to be cooler than the summer like weather you guys will be having back home.
