Olive Garden has a shrimp scampi dish PLUS another dish from the appetizer menu. The appetizer dish has more garlic in it and I usually get that but have them use angel hair pasta instead of the toast points. They also have a chicken scampi. It is yummy!
I haven't found anywhere that has a good, traditional scampi. It is one of my husband's favorites. I make it for him, tweaking the FDNY's recipe. It is a pretty simple one and with a little more garlic, lemon and using a combo of butter and olive oil, it tastes great.
DH really likes the shrimp scampi at Casalinga in Raleigh but that is not what you would think of in terms of a traditional scampi. They serve it in a sauce made with tomatoes and other things. He thinks it is fantastic but it is definitely not an olive oil/butter/lemon/garlic sauce.
I don't know if they have Scampi or not, but Mambo Italiano in Apex (at the Harris Teeter Shopping Center at 55 and Peakway) has EXCELLENT food, including Bolognaise and other dishes that are "to die for". They owner is from NYC, and it totally reminded me of eating in the neighborhood (as if! I'm not from NYC, but have been there, and to little Italy, and I feel like I do know good food!)
Anyway, if they have Scampi, I can asure you it's good. And if they don't try something else.
FYI, they serve family style, so bring some peeps wit you'ze.
Thanks for this! I contacted them, and they also have GLUTEN-FREE penne and spaghetti on hand! Whoo-hoo!
This would be worth the drive!
BTW, in Rochester, we never say, "wit youz." Instead we have flat "a's."
So, thaaaanks for the telling me about the restaurant with good shrimp scaaaaampi!
