I am looking for reccommendations for someone to give a short presentation during the morning of May 8 for a charity event. I don't have a budget to hire someone for a lot of money. Attending will be about 50 girls and women (ages 6-80), so it would need to be clean, and appeal to wide variety of ages. Any suggestions?
Topic is flexible (whatever the person wants to talk about), but needs to appeal to women/girls of a wide range of ages. It will be in a church setting, but doesn't have to be "churchy"-- any topic is fine. Something "light" or funny would be best to keep interest-- deosn't have to be long.
Sorry! Its an annual mother-daughter-sister breakfast at my church. The proceeds will go towards any medical costs of orphans at an orphanage in Haiti that we started in 2007.
You could also get some ideas by looking at the websites of some of these groups Carolina Woman Magazine
And looking in the triangle, consider women CEO's, heads of organizations or educational institutions.
Cynthia Marshall, AT&T has a compelling personal story which illustrates the importance of education. Perhaps you could convince her to speak? She's very dynamic.
Beth Briggs and Jennifer Tolle Whitesides are local. This link would also be a place to start. Look for local folks Meredith College : Women's Leadership Summit (http://www.meredith.edu/summit/at-a-glance.htm - broken link)
And, Andrea Bazan, head of Triangle Community Foundation is originally from either Central or South America, she's a very interesting person. Triangle Community Foundation | About Us
Other local women to consider if they'll accept, Van Eure, Angus Barn, she can speak about volunteerism; Pam Salsby, WRAL, community involvement.
Regelyn Wilder Edwards, Hearts and Hands for Haiti Wake County Commission for Women
If you don't find one in all these links, then you are fired!
now that Tiger Woods seems to have regained his popularity after 3 good days at Augusta maybe you should consider inviting him as part of his recovery program - aparently he is very popular with womens groups
I think his recovery program should involve a mtg with Lorena Bobbit, she'll help him put things in perspective
If I don't hear his name again it'll be too soon. I'm sick of hearing about those self-indulgent, spoiled athletes. I also don't want to hear all the minutia they feed us about these and other celebs...maybe that's just me(?). There are more important things going on in the world I'd rather hear about.
Back on topic...good luck OP..hope you find just the right speaker!
I would contact someone at Meredith College (don't know exactly who) and see if they could recommend someone from there.
