This weekend a woodpecker alerted me to the poor condition of the trim around the top of my "chimney". Does anyone have any recommendations of a handyman or such that could repair this? We are also looking to get the house painted, so if someone knows of take care of both that would be great!

I highly recommend G Double Painting. I have used them numerous times and I have recommended them to a lot of people on this board. I have used them for both interior and exterior painting, trimwork--repair and painting, powerwashing and deck work. By far the best estimates I have received and they go above and beyond.

Owner is Gary Jeudy 469-4798 great guy! Tell him Taryn Jessup recommended him!

A word of caution - it being a chimney, I'd be sure to research what needs to be done that might stop this from happening again if possible. And, be prepared that there might be damage behind the trim if water has been seeping in. It can be costly work, I'd be sure to get someone who really know what they are doing otherwise you'll be replacing it again in a couple of yrs - this happened to a few ppl I know and ended up costing them a ton of money to rebuild it.

Yes, the woodpecker was able to make a large enough hole to climb in over the weekend and the wood chips that landed on the deck are all crumbly. My stomach gets into knots just thinking about it.

Thank you to those who have made recommendations publicly and privately.

The woodpecker is either looking for food (insects) or a home. If there are insects there, then, more than likely, the metal chimney chase cap has leaked and allowed water inside.

Strongly consider only making this repair once. Don't use wood on the outside of a structure if there is a PVC alternative. Consider this: insects will not harm PVC, birds are not attracted to PVC, water will not harm PVC.

If you are going to pay somone to access your chimney (usually the most difficult area we go to on a home) then only go there once, use premium materials, and don't worry about ever going there again.

Totally agree! When I found damaged siding on my dorma I had it all replaced with Hardiplank so that I wouldn't have to worry about rot again. It saves a ton $$ over time.

I just got a very good ( 30% below ) estimate from Gary. I think I am going with him. Thanks Taryn.

G Double painting ( Gary Jeudy - Owner ) finished work on our house. The details and overall experience---

Our house has plenty of double sash windows, hardiplank siding on 3 sides and brick on front.
House is close to 3500 sq.ft and additional walk out basement - making the rear part a 3 story structure. We have enclosed porch and deck making up close to 600 sq.ft. G double power washed whole exterior and deck. Scraped loose caulk and paint. Removed rotted wood at 4 places and replaced. Painted all trim one color and siding a different color with DURON Weathershield paint. Also caulked+Painted deck railing and supports ( decking is composite so no stain ).

G Double had one of the lowest estimate ( PM me for actual cost ) and we are very happy with outcome.

Overall - G Double gets 5 stars and I'd call him again when we need additinal work done.
