We were at the farmers market a few weeks ago and there was nobody there. We have been meaning to go back and get more herbs. We bought some fantastic herbs last year: moroccan mint, lemon thyme, winter thyme and sage that are just thriving. Only the thai basil didn't survive the winter.

North Raleigh: your garden looks great. We put some of our herbs in window boxes off our deck, so they are easy to get to all year round.

basil - all basil - is annual. If you like a variety, you can let it blossom at the end of the season and collect the seeds for next year. (you can almost always collect seeds and sprout new generation - but with basil when I've found a great plant I like to keep it)

Would anyone mind telling me if they are selling Thai Chilli peppers there ? These peppers are thin around 1.5 to 2 inches long and really hot. All I have found in the local stores are Jalapenos and the serrano varities.

Is Kevin that sells trees and shrubs set up at the market yet. He is a real big guy and I can't remember who he is with. My neighbor bought beautiful gardenias from him and I wanted to get a few myself.

Are all the vendors there during the week too? I would like to go down mid week to avoid the weekend crowds.

I was there yesterday during the day. There were many vendors but not as many as the weekend. However, I felt like the selection was very good... especially plants and flowers. They were also selling some JC strawberries.

Are the flowers both annuals and perennials or mostly annuals?

I was there on Saturday!
1) Went to the Farmer's Market first, got a big ol' box of strawberries from the drive-thru wholesale section for only $6.
2) Ate a fried catfish sandwich at the NC Farmer's Market Seafood Restaurant.
3) Strolled about WRAL Azalea Gardens.
4) Stopped by a plant sale at the JC Raulston Arboretum and also walked through the gardens there.

I got my 10000 steps in that day!

there's a mix - trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, vines, you name it, if it's grown in NC the State farmers market has it! (as well as fruits, vegees, herbs - plants and goods)

Oh let me count the ways I LOVE the NC State Farmer's Market in Raleigh!
