My son has been offered admission to the IB Magnet program at Garner High School (9th grade). I see that the school is relatively new to magnet program. Any one with their kids going to the Magnet program at Garner HS could give me some reference/insight/comments? Positive/negative experiences? thanks in advance.

I will say this.... Apex HS!!!! I have no real issues with Garner HS, the advanced classes are very good with good teachers but you will live in Apex and I would rate Apex HS as one of the better High Schools in North Carolina.

I know very little about the specific high schools, but I do know that if he is motivated and capable and plans to follow through and work toward the IB diploma (not just take a few IB classes, but complete the extended essay, take the exams etc) that is very highly regarded by college admissions officers (I worked at a university and served as a reader in the admissions office one year). Taking (and succeeding in) IB classes and taking AP classes were viewed rather equally, but actually getting the IB diploma gave applicants an advantage.
