We are moving from NJ in July and will be buying a home in Sunset Ridge with a year round elementary school as a base. My youngest will be on a year round calendar and my eldest will be on a traditional calendar. I understand I have a choice of yr vs. traditional but am looking for recommendation on Holly Springs or Holly Ridge. Testing under Holly Ridge seems below average but also I understand the school only has one year of testing under it's belt. Can anyone offer advise in helping me make this big decision. Thanks in advance.

Hello there. I live in Sunset Ridge and face the same decision as you. We have been here almost 9 months. I have two middle school boys that will be on a traditional calender and a 4th grade girl at Holly Springs. It was a tough decision for us. My daughter begged to stay at Holly Springs. We debated to move her over but for us felt that she has finially gotten settled at Holly Springs and to move her again might be tough. We were able to get track 4 so at least she will have July off with her brothers. We are keeping her at Holly Springs and seeing how the year round/different schedule thing plays out. If it is just a nightmare then we will move her over to Holly Ridge. I know the test scores are lower but as you said it is a new school. My biggest gripe about it was more the bell times. They don't start until 9 am and get out at 3:45 or something like that. That makes after school activities hard to fit in with homework for us. My Dd is in competitive cheer 2x or more a week plus tennis and we need to be there as early as 4:30 some days. SO look at the bell times as well and see how that will pan out. I know there are families that have chosen to move over to HR so test scores will be messed up for a bit. One thing that keeps sticking in my mind however is the fact that my kids attended two brand new schools out in CA and both first years at those schools the test scores were the best in the district so I am a bit baffled as to why the first year test scores are low at HR. In my mind it being a brand new school perhaps should not figure into it???? So wher ein Sunset Ridge did you buy?

I don't want to jink myself I am not under contract yet it's between a resale on Skymont and a new construction on Crossway. I am going to go to both Holly Springs and Holly Ridge tomorrow to meet the principals and hear what they have to offer and possibly take a tour - I am hoping that will help with my decision making.

HEY I live on Skymont! I know the resale you are speaking of. It just went up on the market a couple weeks ago. The people only lived in it for about 2 months and the hubby did not like his job so he took another in Ohio. I am sure out of the two you will get one of them! SO how old are your kids? We will have to have our kids meet once you are in Good luck and let me know how the tours go and what you decide and of course especially if you are going to be our neighbor or not!

Congratulations! SO did you end up with the Skymont home or the Crossway? Did you come to a decision after touring the schools? Feel free to PM me.

I am also intered in Sunset ridge. I was wondering if you had toured the schools and what you liked or did not like. On the brochure I recieved it stated the both Holly Springs elementary and Holly Ridge elementary are traditional, but I'm hearing that that is not the case. Did you have a choice as to which school to enroll your children? Any information would be appreciated. Congrats on your new home.

We also live in Sunset Ridge, but on the South side. Our school options were Holly Ridge (base school) or West Lake (yr round). We applied and got into West Lake. Most of our neighbors kids go there and we love it so far (my kids are on track 1 and started in July). I had not heard anything bad about Holly Ridge, and the campus is nice. I would personally choose Holly Springs over HR, since their scores have been consistantly high and I like the yr round model. But we are very happy with our decision...with the neighbors all tracking out at the same time, we all can help each other out.

My youngest went to Holly Springs last year but we moved her to HR since her older siblings are both in high school. I have no complaints about either school.
That is a very nice neighborhood you are moving to. I have inspected approximately 20 houses over there and they are well built. I hope you enjoy Holly Springs as much as we do, Good Luck!

Hi what county are you coming from in Jersey?? Im also thinking of relocating to HS. It really sounds like a nice place to live and very family oriented. Property taxes in NJ are sky rocketing, among other things.
Time for change!
