We ate at El Cuscatleco this weekend, and WOW! Their focus is Salvadorean food, but they do Mexican as well. The restaurant is on Garrett Road, near the intersection with 15-501.
Our server spoke just a little English, and she gave us her best effort. I speak a little Spanish, so it all worked out. I'm sure anyone who doesn't speak Spanish could get by with gestures and pointing at the menu, though you might have some trouble with descriptions.
I ordered Huevos y Plantanos (eggs and plantains), which was two fried eggs in a wonderful salsa, with a side of very creamy, delicious refried beans and rice. The huevos were nicely prepared and the plantanos were just amazing. My husband got the Plato Tipico, which included plantains, a pupusa with pork and beef, a tamal with pork (he loved both of these - I'm a vegetarian so I didn't taste), yucca (OMG - so good and crisp), and some other thing that was actually his favorite on the platter, but still forgot what it was called.
My 10-year-old daughter had a cheese pupusa and corn tamal. The pupusa was just incredible. It was prepared so beautifully, and my daughter actually sighed when she bit into it. The corn tamal was very good - very sweet corn taste, and when we dipped it in sour cream, it was perfect. My husband tasted it and said it was dry compared to the meat tamal that he had on his plate, but liked it anyway. DD loved it, also, and liked all the tastes we gave her from our plates.
They served chips and salsa as a starter. Some of our chips were stale, some were fresh. The salsa was very good - fresh and chunky.
We are all excited to go back. Loved the food. 97 sanitation rating. All good.
