I've just relocated from the midwest and am looking for work in Administrative/Office Support/Assistance. I have years of experience and a great resume'. Any suggestions how to get hooked up with good positions in the Raleigh/Cary area? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the staffing agencies? We always hire our admins through a temp agency and bring them on full time after 3 months.

Hi!
I'm an office manager and have been an AA/EA as well, so I'm pretty aware of what's out there. I second/third the recommendations for a staffing agency - Greene Resources is very good, plus any others. The best place to start though, is the usual big job-boards/websites like Monster. All of the local companies tend to list their admin jobs there, through agencies or on their own. It's a good way to see what the salary range is as well. Admin jobs generally don't pay very well here, but I'm not sure what you were paid in the past, so it may be comparable (I'm from the NYC suburbs and it is a far cry salary-wise).

Another great way to get out there is to network - join meetup.com (it's free) and meet as many people as possible by joining any group that appeals to you, you never know who might know of an available job plus you'll make a few friends along the way!

It sounds like you've already moved here, so you also might want to try temp work/part time work to get your foot in the door. A lot of places like to check you out a bit before hiring, so it can work in your favor.

Best of luck!
Tara

Staffing agencies often advertise on Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, and Indeed.com.

I avoid those websites - it is really hard to sort the legit from the scams (pyramid schemes, cold-calling or telemarketing jobs masquerading as legitimate admin jobs, etc.).

Good luck. I have lots of experience and a great resume too and I have been looking for almost a year. cry884 is right...lots of ads on websites (esp. craigslist) are scams.

Duke Temporary Services is a great way to get your foot in the door at Duke if you can go without bennies for a while. Many temp positions go on to full-time employment.

Duke Human Resources: Temporary Employment

Edit: Sorry, I see now you're specifying Cary/Raleigh. Still, many people make that commute to Durham. And Duke does have a hospital in Raleigh.
