I've heard of movie theaters doing special showings for moms with little kids- lower volume & like company so no one is upset by kids throwing fits. Anyone know if there are theaters that do this in the Raleigh/Cary area?

I'm sure there are some in the summer. There are a couple of theaters in Chapel Hill and Durham that do summer kids' movies so I would be surprised if there weren't in Raleigh.

Or were you asking for grown-up movies that you might take an infant to? I don't know of any theaters doing that, but there may be.

I know Regal Cinemas in the area will do free kid movies starting in June.

There was a theater group that was doing mom movies once a week, rotating to different locations - it was adult movies that you take infants to, just like you described with low lighting and other moms who don't mind kids. I thought it was on Wednesdays, but didn't see it in the listings in today's paper. I'll see if I can figure out which group it was, or if they're still doing it. I'm not sure.

I think she meant the latter, and I have heard of such showings now and then, though I don't know if it was anywhere local or just something I read about. They do a late morning or early afternoon screening specifically for people with babies and toddlers--it's similar to how some restaurants have "fussy baby night" or a similar name. Might be something to suggest to some of the theatres.

usually there's a whole bunch of theatres that do this in the summers - wakefield, raleigh grande, and so on. Wakefield did Tu and We - a choice of movies each day - for 8? weeks. Ditto other theatres, different days of the week. All free. The schedules should be coming out soon.

It's so much fun to bring the kids and not have to worry about squealing infants or unruly preschoolers with a penchant for throwing popcorn and fits or elementary school age kids who get up to pee every 5 minutes ... because the people in front of you and behind you are dealing with the same thing!!!

Regal had a Mom's Movie Club a while back. I went when my son was a baby. They played new, adult movies during weekday mornings. I went a couple of times. If you had a crying baby, it was okay. It was a nice way to get out with really little ones. I'm not sure if they still do it, you may want to call.

They also have the kids summer movies that play kids movies and are packed with camp kids. It's loud and little ones don't have to sit absolutely still. I've taken my kids to that a couple of times too. They enjoyed it.

The movie theater at Southpoint Mall in Durham did this a few years back like once/month or something. I don't know if they still do, as attendance apparently wasn't always good so they may have discontinued it. Worth looking asking about though.
