I plugged the company's address of where my husband's intersted in working and the location in north carolina state university (where I think we'll be travelling to for clubs and other interests) into mapquest.

Now I don't want to say where the company is other than RTP, but mapquest says that it's only 12 miles distance between the company in RTP and the university. And that it's a 17 minute drive. I'm assuming that with traffic 17 minutes is not a realistic estimate, what would be?

I'm asking because knowing the distance in travel time between these 2 locations would help me in figuring out what areas I should be looking at the housing market in.

thanks

it depends where in RTP you will be....I work in North Raleigh & it takes me about 15 minutes... and that is driving fast!? i'd say morrisville, cary, west raleigh would be a good start

yes those were the areas that map wise looked convienent to me. Durham would be ideal for his work location, but not ideal for the shopping and my daughter's activities. although all this is hard to tell until we're living there.

but i want to spend as little time renting an apartment as possible. so we won't be living there too long before buying housing. living in an apartment with a toddler and without our kitties for a year is not an option for us.

Well, the idea that anyone might not move to Durham because of shopping options sounds absolutely laughable to me! I'm not saying you have to move to Durham, of course, but it certainly sounds like you may need to learn more about the city if that's the impression you've been given.

What sort of shopping are you wanting? What kind of activities are you & your daughter involved in?

oh , i'm not saying that there's not shopping there. but i've websearched for clubs and things and the ones that we plan to join meet at the college in Raleigh.

so if we're going to be in raleigh alot, why not live in between the 2 cities or closer to raleigh? at least i'm thinking that i should start our house search there. might not be where the search ends, but gotta start with some area in mind.
