Hi,

My child needs neuropsychological testing for potential LD's (learning disorders).

I have an in-network only plan so I can only see doctors in my plan. In the Triangle Area, the following PhD-level Pyschologists are in my plan:

Valerie Sawyer Smith
Alanna Conder
Jillayne Hollifield
Judith Christopher
Elwood Burgess

Can anyone comment on any of these docs? If anyone has anything negative to say and you don't want to post it on the forum, please PM me.

Thank you in Advance!

From my understanding if you are testing for Learning Disabilities than it is not covered. The testing component for ADHD may be covered because they see that as a medical diagnosis rather than learning disabilities.

Please let me know if I am wrong, as I have been through this once and am looking to do it again with another child.

Best of luck!

It's convoluted! And the depends on your plan. Our insurance company said they might pay. I would have to take my child to one of those Psychologist (at ~$200 for an initial visit), have the Psychologist do an evaluation and submit, for review, their findings in relationship to need for testing. In a few days, we would receive either an approval or disapproval. My child has some congenital problems that may make her eligible for insurance coverage as well.

Good Luck to you! I hope you find what you need! If you want to PM me, I'll be happy to discuss things in a more private setting.

BTW, the school is planning to educational testing for my child. My understanding is educational testing is only a portion of neuropsychological testing. You are probably ahead of me when it comes to knowing those things.

I know Dr. Conder is supposed to be very good She works with Dr. Preston who is who we went with. He works at the same practice part-time from what I understand, so he may be covered too. He was really excellent! Either one would be good.

And yes, the insurance companies are a pain. We have BCBS and everything was covered except for the educational testing specifically. Hopefully your insurance is the same.
