I am searching for good child care here in Raleigh, and am open to in-home or facility. I have searched in all the obvious ways, through yellow pages, Google searches, etc. My location seems to have sort of a "dead zone" for good child care that doesn't cost more than my mortgage. I am near the Crabtree Valley Mall, and my other child will be at Douglas elementary school this fall, so something over by North Hills Mall would be fine, too. My problem so far is that the ones I like are unaffordable, or only go until 1 PM, but I am a college student with afternoon classes. I have visited a few that are under 900 dollars a month, and I wouldn't send a dog I liked to them. Any suggestions? I guess I am hoping to come across something the locals might be aware of that doesn't pop up in a Google search.
I'm afraid I don't have specific recommendations, but you may want to join trianglemommies.com and request membership in their Moms on the Clock (MOTC) forum. There may be folks there who have specific recommendations and personal experience. In looking for childcare I found Google to be unhelpful too, but the childcare database mentioned by a pp is quite comprehensive, and TM is great for specific recommendations.
I would check out creative kidz academy in North Raleigh. It might be a little farther from you, but it's very affordable (private not a chain) and the quality of instructors and activties there are very good. The website lists tuition rates as well. It's off of Strickland Rd. between six forks and falls of neuse. Creative Kidz Academy (http://creativekidzacademy.com/index.php - broken link)
Check out craigslist childcare ads. There are plenty of in home daycares that are very affordable. Of course, I would do my homework before sending a child there, but I think it could be a good option.
