You know....I have been meeting people I first met online since 1994....and not one of them has been an axe-murderer. I feel so cheated.

But for those of us who are going, where should we do it this time? Could we please please have the meet-up at a locally owned establishment this time? Ya know, someplace that will show the newcomers some local flavor.
How about O'Dwyer's? They have a smaller 'back room' they let folks reserve tables in. It's not 'private' but it's tucked in the corner.

Yes, it is by former NY'ers and one bartender is from NJ, but there are many natives that go in there regularly. I've learned more about the history of Wake Forest listening to the old timers at the bar then I have in any other way.

Two of the bartenders are native NC'ers, another from Georgia (I believe).

We are all 'local' now....maybe not native North Carolina....but local now none-the-less. It's all part of the the area now. She asked for locally own, not a time capsule back to the old south.

Why should you care anyway? You aren't coming because you think we are all axe-murderers.

I was simply suggesting that we avoid national chain restaurants. A place that serves southern food or Carolina BBQ would be fantastic, but not necessary. I simply think it's important for newcomers to break out of their comfort zones & go to unfamiliar places. When I go out to eat, I always prefer to eat at smaller, locally owned establishments, no matter the ethnicity of the cuisine.

Where is O'Dwyers? Is it in Wake Forest?

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Come to think of it maybe that is the local flavor of the Triangle these days.
Ouch!

No, I don't think it's funny...It's a nice resturant/bar that I go to quite a bit....I think of it as a local sports bar....as do most of the other regulars....transplants or native.

The only one being humour-less is you.....Again, why are you even in this thread if you have no intention of showing up for the Meet Up?

Yeah, it's in Wake Forest....just down from Heritage. Since most transplants don't like Eastern BBQ (though I do, most find the vinegar off putting) I just don't think such a joint would be great for dinner for most folks. I picked a nice place that had a mix of Northern transplants, Southern Natives and a mix of ages.

Though I see that it should have all been made clear that it's to happen at a place with a "True NC" pedigree. Excuse me for suggesting anything.

Oh, and by the way, thank you for giving me a negative point for mentioning that some local places do have a mix of folks no matter where the owners are from....the only one being touchy is you.

Let's get this thread back in focus, shall we?

Desdemona, O'Dwyers sounds like a good option. Would anybody else like to make a suggestion?

Well, since this was proposed by Saluki_lover, how about some place with a dog-friendly patio? Then the dogs could have a meet-up, too!
