It will be interesting to follow this. I am guessing he will take a plea, as the facts seem pretty clear and I think he would want to keep his family from a long trial. I would not think it would be a very lenient deal.
wow, you must a sixth sense or something. How coincidental is that?
That is really weird to think about a case that was 9 months ago and find out he is in court the next day...
Every once in a while a story touches me deeply for a long time..this was
certainly one of those...I drive by that intersection every day...
I also think DUI's are not dealt with harshly enough ...
I just did some research on Wake County Assistant District Attorney
Jeff Cruden. He is the one who offered this plea deal to Mr. Cook.
(only Dr I care to call him is Dr. Death )
MADD actually presented him with an award for representing drunk driving
victims recently... It is possible that if the plea included jail time that
it was a better "sure deal" than trial...
After the plea is accepted (if it is ) I hope Mr. Cruden will explain to he public
why he offered a deal/plea to Cook.
He is an elected official and the public should be informed of that.
This is such a tragic story. He deserves to be put away for a long time. This poor young lady.
Dr. Cook was my daughters surgeon 2 years ago, and he was awesome. The way he handled the surgery, my daughter and comforted me was amazing. I was so comfortable with him and the surgery.
All around it is so tragic. This man likely was 2 different personalities, the wonderful surgeon and then the person he became after work.
Jury trials are not always predictable and it is possible that if he was able to make a sad story to the jury, they might buy it.. I have talked to people that know him and have been told "you don't know the whole story...you don't know him". Don't get me wrong, I think he is guilty as heck. I am just saying that although you might think he deserved to "go to trail before his peers", prosecutors know that a "trial by jury" is sometimes a crap shoot. So, the prosecutor may be thinking that he wants to be sure he gets jail time, rather than take a chance that the jury will be lenient, so he is offering a deal, hoping that Cook will take it to avoid putting his family through a trail. I would think the desire of this guy to avoid a trial would be strong in this case, and think the prosecutor may be playing to that card.

I hope you are right about your thinking...
When the details of the plea come out everyone will see whether he only got probation or actually jail time.. To me probation would literally be "getting away with murder"
