I've used CS Tree Service to do some work on my trees twice now and have been quite happy with them. I didn't get any stumps ground, but I'm sure if you gave them a quick call they could let you know the usual charges. Their phone # is 601-7364.
Just a thought.........looking to save money? Or do you NEED to get rid of the stump asap? I used a great technique in MA that will get you by, if needed: Saw off the stump as close to the ground as possible. Drill numerous holes vertically into the stump. Fill all the holes with salt. If you need faster results, grind away! I wish I had a referral for ya!

+1 on CS Tree Services. They did a huge bunch of grinding for me in the fall and I really appreciate the quality of work and service. They are certified arborists. CS Tree Services - Raleigh, Apex, Cary - NC
"they do know trees"
i was quoted $150 for a 2-3' diameter pine tree. After paying a few hundred to have 2 trees cut I didn't want to pay any more $$.
So I drilled holes and put in a product & covered with soil and wait. I got the stuff at Lowes, it's a natural microbe of sorts...sorry can't remember the name. the salt thing sounds good to do. I did mine the summer before last? And now it's mushy and powdery.
If you are patient, a pretty cheap way to hasten decay is to drill some holes and regularly fill them with milk to create some wonderful "beasties" to eat away the offending stump.
Never use diesel, kerosene, or gas on a stump (as many recommend) or ignite any flammable near a stump. This is a terrible idea!
I am sure that someone coming out to grind the stump wouldn't do it for less than a hundred dollars just b/c of drive and set up time. That is unless they live down the street then it would be extra drinking money for them. Lol.
We had Jerry Mimlitsch (R U Stumped) do about a half dozen or so around our property last fall. He charged $75 and did a fine job...good deal if you can put up with a bit of proselytizing.
