We have major drainage issues in our yard (front and back) and my guess is that we'll likely need either a French Drain and/or regrading. Anyone have experience with a company/person that does this type of work that you'd recommend?

I would be interested in knowing if you found someone! We are buying a house in Chapel Hill which has some erosion issues and probably inadequate lawn drainage systems. I have considered hiring David Miller & Associates to review the issue since I'm not sure that a landscaper is the right place to start. However, it would appear that Poteat Landscape and Chris Vangoethem Landshaping both do drainage work and both received good reviews on Angie's List.

I am in SW Durham and spent a fortune on drainage and regrading as did my neighbor behind me and below me. My neighbors went low-end and got what they paid for. I used a landscape architect because I literally got 10 different opinions on what to do. My landscape architect was Dave Wadford with Accent Design. He is in Chapel Hill and wonderful to work with. He drew up the plans for me for drainiage, grading, and for all new landscaping. He is very affordable. You can google him to find his website and phone #.

With drainage no solution is ever perfect and it won't be 100% in the first try as I swear the water moves. Also, we did ours in the fall because the wet season is fall - spring. Besides with all new grass we had a better chance of it surviving the winter instead of the summer. We have surface drains, regrading, and french drains. My house gets pummeled in storms so I feel your pain.

Not sure how you DM someone, but please feel free to contact me for further information.

I realized I wasn't very clear in my post. I used an architect for the solution which was affordable and then spent a fortune with another company to do the work. I wanted an expert because it is expensive to fix and wanted a solution from someone who was certified in drainage.
